Best friend might become my boyfriend...but initial wasnt that great...help!?

so ive been best friend with this guy for awhile...we truly are inseperable...but we were strictly platonic...just recently we started talking bout dating and then we hooked up...it was a little awkward and uncomfortable...plus i hadnt had in over a year since my last bf...so i was alittle rusty...how can i redeem myself...and does this mean that we shouldnt bother with a relationship...or is it just first hook up jitters?
