The Book, The Road, by Cormac McCarthy?

Has anyone else out there read this book? I thought it was incredible. My question is, what do you think happened to the world in this story? I know it’s meant to be unnamed and cryptic but what are the possibilities? I was weighing the possibility of an asteroid collision (everything burned, no life whatsoever, the sun blocked out) what do you think?
