How do you connect copper together?

Use silver solder to solder it together. Make sure that it does not have lead in it. Solders are still sold in the us that are made from lead and you do not want these for what you are doing. The other method is brazing the parts together. It takes hotter temperatures to do this work though but it will be much more long lasting and strong. Google brazing for more info.
