Ipod wedding ceremony music- Help! ?

My wife and I used an ipod, if there's one thing I would do differently it would have been to hire a dj. We are both fairly ipod savvy (not experts, but we know a bit more than the basics) but even though we did a specific wedding playlist it still didn't sound quite "right". We had a friend operate the ipod and thought we timed it well but it sounded kind of tinny.
